I have been denied a second opinion from an off base specialist.After waiting months to see an orthopedic doctor for right knee injury(torn meniscus) I was seen by a PA(physicians Asst). I was told that the clinics policy was I had to have at least one injection(steroid or PRP) that was unsuccessful before they would even consider surgery. I was also told that the one thing and only thing they would do for surgery was to cut out any torn tissue, not repair it. I asked my PCM to submit another referral to an UC health orthopedic surgeon to be evaluated(second opinion). The USAFA 10th medical group orthopedic clinic again grabbed my referral as a right of first refusal and is refusing to allow me to obtain a second opinion. After bringing my concerns to the patient advocate they agreed to allow me to see one of their doctors. That is not a second opinion. Their clinic has certain policies for treatment(poor treatment) that will not change no matter who I see(just a different messenger). I am requesting the orthopedic clinic stop taking my referrals and allow me to get an actual second opinion. Worst standard of care.

Best care ever - 10 Med Group family practice (Caulkins) - entire Orthopedic (Davidson) staff, XRay, and Lab - (Evan’s Ft Carson) - and I’ve had surgeries at Tripler, Anschutz, Walter Reed which were great - but USAFA has really improved over the years to point of excellence! Thank you all.

Tricare has created a “Haves and Haves not system” where they send certain families off base for all their primary medical services and force others to have PCMs at the 10th medical group.

Those that go off base experience all the benefits of being on a functional medical system. Luxuries like integrated app based scheduling and quick referrals.

Those that are forced to stay at the 10th suffer long waits, iffy support, and inconsistent care.

Tricare will tell you that you can always sign up for Tricare select, but those members they sent off base are retained in the lower cost Tricare Prime.

There are good doctors at the 10th, but chances are you won’t get to see them on a time scale that makes sense.

No flexibility for appointments. Waited 3 wks to get in and day of appointment called to indicate I'd be 15 minutes late due to traffic jam. Staff canceled appointment by policy requiring mandatory reschedule of appointments over 10 minutes late. Next appointment 3 wks later. That extra 5 minutes would have really put out the support staff I'm sure. No big deal - I'll wait another 21 days...it's just my health.

And military leaders wonder why retention is so bad. I'd say terrible support services are in the top 3 reasons. Since it's an entitlement, I guess you get what you pay for.

If I could give this place a zero star rating I would. I was told to arrive 1 hr and 20 min early to my orthopedic appointment. For X-rays and then to be seen. I did so, I arrived 1 hr and 30 min early, got my X-rays and then checked in at the orthopedic clinic only to be told that the dr is running 30 min behind each appointment. I arrived at 0830, my appointment is at 1020…it is now past 11am and I have not been seen. They asked if I wanted to reschedule which I declined because I WORK FULL TIME. I had to request PTO to come here, their inability to run this place correctly is infuriating and very disappointing. I have a friend on Medicaid that receives better treatment than this.

Always the worst! Long waits, no one helping, the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in my 26 years of dealing with government medical facilities! Whomever runs this place should be ashamed, have some pride and train your people!! Just one example…I waited 20m to check-in at X-Ray! Ridiculous, hire some help or get your military out from there desks and teach them what customer service is!!

Showed up early as instructed to fill out paperwork, only to find the building unlocked but completely empty. After wandering around for 10 minutes, I found a receptionist in a different department, but unfortunately, she refused to even attempt to page the front desk. It's been another 20 minutes, and I should be done with my paperwork and been checked in at this point but I'm still staring at closed windows and am empty reception desk.

BTW, the older male receptionist at the family health desk is super rude. I had to ask him three times if the doctor was running behind before he actually answered me, and then he dramatically and visibly rolled his eyes at the lady who was in line behind me as soon as her back was turned.

Well well well- another one star added to the rating. I hope DHA reads this review because everywhere MHS Genesis goes seems to remove the healthcare from the facility. The enlisted/commissioned seem happy enough (probably because they get to do “training” or sell bake goods) and the civilians seem disgruntled. I don’t blame them, they’re probably treated inhumane within their flights as to be expected with any Air Force medical. All in all the customer service blows (unless their making money for a fundraiser, but then again that’s probably the favored personnel are placed)
