Great view at the trailhead! This trails got a bit of elevation. Not as sandy as the crooked lake prairie scrublands. Doesn't say anything about pets, but there won't be any gators around here. It's got a picnic table down the trail a ways but the only trashcan is at the parking lot.

Short hike on the Lake Wales Ridge. Should take less than an hour. Winds through scrub habitat and forest. It's a non-strenuous, easy hike. To make it a day, also visit the nearby Crooked Lake Prairie Scrub for a longer hike that goes through the scrub, over a boardwalk, and along a lake where you can have lunch at a picnic table.

The sandy part of the trail had deep 4-inch ruts and was almost impossible to walk on. There were no trash cans or places to rest. Not a trail for people with disabilities or children.

I was a little disappointed in this trail after hiking a few others in the area. It is not marked well and I spent half my hike walking along a fence next private property and a road. There are much better trails within a mile or so of this one.

Hidden among the maze of orange groves, Crooked Lake Sandhill is a 25 acre park of the Polk County Environmental Lands Program. The park is one of the rare, unmolested, sandhills of the Lake Wales Ridge (Florida's Galapagos). Not too far away up the hill is the highest elevation in Central to South Florida, 301 feet. Look for it on Google Earth.

There is a great view of Crooked Lake and even a picnic table on the main trail.
