The Center has exceeded our expectations and we have had a wonderful experience. We had received excellent feedback from friends who had placed their loved ones in the Center and now we know why. The friendly, professional staff are amazing and the nurses & therapists are exceptional. It’s a daunting process when considering where to get the best care for those you love but each day as we experience the thoughtful attention, respect and consideration of the Care Team, we are reassured that this was the perfect place for our family. We truly appreciate their assistance and support and feel very blessed.

1st time visiting my close friend. I realize they have changed the name since my Mom was a patient here. Today was a pleasant surprise. Beginning with the security, then the greeting at the front lobby. My friend seems happy & is greatly improving. That's all that matters.
Thank goodness for New Management!

If I could give this facility zero stars, I absolutely would. If your loved one has pulmonary issues, DO NOT send them here. The nurses are not properly trained to handle such conditions and exhibit a shocking level of carelessness.
If your loved one is immobile, be warned: the response time for patients is over an hour—meaning they are often left sitting in their own waste for extended periods. The facility’s cleanliness is subpar, and basic health precautions are ignored. During a recent COVID outbreak, many staff members and visitors failed to wear masks, further endangering vulnerable residents.
Placing a loved one in a nursing home is already an emotional and difficult decision, and the staff at this location only makes it worse. With the exception of a few, most employees are either unpleasant or act as though any request for assistance is a burden.
I truly believe that if we had left our family member in this facility, it could have cost him his life. I would strongly urge anyone considering this place to look elsewhere. If you MUST send your family here make sure you have an outside patient advocate.

I admit I was skeptical at first, but the Center has exceeded my expectations. The building itself is old, but serviceable. The staff is friendly, attentive, and good at what they do. The food is good. The PT is thorough. The place is clean. I know everyone has a different experience, but ours has been quite satisfactory so far over the past week that we’ve been here.

My father was a patient at Decatur Center for Nursing and Healing from December 13th until his final days in early February. I have a mixed perspective on the facility, as my experience was shaped both by my own observations and my father's perspective. Many of my concerns with the facility could be considered relative, as they stemmed from communication and language barriers. There were instances where my father’s needs (which I will elaborate on shortly) may not have been fully understood because the staff did not make an effort to dig deeper and determine exactly what he required. This issue primarily involved food options. My father did not eat cheese or pork, and it took 2.5 weeks—and my persistent advocacy—to get this documented.

He had only one direct issue with a specific staff member who worked at the nurses’ station. He described her perfectly, and I personally witnessed her lack of professionalism (unrelated to my father) while standing at the nursing station. She’s not worth describing in detail.

Another minor issue I encountered arose when my father had two separate emergency room visits during his stay. Toward the end, I received a call from someone informing me that paperwork regarding my father’s stay had not been completed. At this point, he was on life support, and two months had already passed. I had been at the facility every other day (if not daily) to the extent that the staff recognized me. It was disheartening and extremely unprofessional for a medical facility to demonstrate such negligence in documentation—especially when I was so deeply involved in every aspect of my father’s care.

Regarding the rehab team, I want to express my love and appreciation for Vanni. We spoke on many occasions, and she was informative, humorous (which was much needed), and genuinely had my best interests at heart when advising me on how to proceed with my father’s care. I also appreciated the thoughtful questions and updates I received from the speech therapist.

I have a list of staff members I want to acknowledge for making my father’s stay as positive as it could be. Beharne (I may have misspelled his name) and Chris were very forthcoming and accommodating on the nursing and tech side of things. I never met Solo, but I appreciate the behind-the-scenes work he did to support my father’s care. When my father had to go to the ER, LaKeshia was a Godsend—warm, understanding, professional, and informative. Ms. Bonita at the front desk was always a joy to see, and she helped me with any needs I had. Ms. Mary was also someone I deeply appreciated for her support and kindness.

Towards the end of my father’s stay—while he was in the ICU—I noticed that some of his key belongings (his smartphone, glasses, etc.) were misplaced, even though I had already picked up most of his other personal items. For about a week, I was sent on a frustrating search between the hospital (which diligently attempted to locate them) and the facility. Initially, the facility claimed they could not find anything, and there was a great deal of miscommunication. Just as I had resigned myself to seeking compensation for the missing items rather than continuing the search, I received a call—at the absolute last minute—informing me that the facility had located them.

This leads me to highlight Nikki. Nikki works on the business side of patient cases, and when I say she held my hand throughout my father’s time at the facility—I truly mean it. She is working in her calling. Nikki kept me well-informed about my father’s potential discharge details, provided phenomenal service in helping me locate assisted living facilities, communicated back and forth with insurance personnel on my behalf, and played a crucial role in coordinating with the custodial/laundry staff to find my father’s missing items. Thank you, Nikki.

I hope no one has to every experience a loved one in sub-acute rehab. What I will say is that you MUST advocate for them in the event that they are placed in one. Locate the people that you know will get the job done as well.

A big thank you to all the staff for the care and attention I received during my recent stay. A special thank you must go to the therapy team, especially Asha and Keith, who took me from being completely immobile to being able to hop (as I was only touch weight bearing on my right leg) the full length of the gym and back to my room. I came through quite a journey with them both physically and mentally. Thank you everyone, you made my stay with you as enjoyable as it could be.
Best wishes to you all
Sylvia…..your English friend xx

I took a tour of the facility today for placement of my mother for short term rehab. The facility was very clean and spacious. Everyone who I encountered was friendly and very informative. This is going to be the perfect place for my mom to recover.
