Horrible follow-up and communication by Doctor and staff. After Doctor recommended eye surgery and that they his office would schedule it, there was no follow-up from Doctor or staff for three months despite my making six or seven calls to the office and one in person visit, each time talking to a real person. Each time the response was that they were working on it and would get back to me right away - never happened. And, this was after I spent $2,500 on new glasses. Very poorly run business in my opinion.

Not a happy patient/customer. Glasses were incorrect, more than once, and I have no confidence this is a smoothly run practice. I went to America's Best for a fraction of the money I spent (even after insurance helped a little) for much better service/pricing. Do not recommend.

Being a clinician myself and in healthcare since 1986, I would never recommend Dr. Camp as a treatment provider. Despite his interpersonal communication weaknesses, I believe he is very competent in many areas of ophthalmology, but his motivations to complete care, to dot the I's and cross the T's is greatly lack, as is his ethical obligation to be fully responsible to disclose and communicate all aspects of treatment including fees UP FRONT ("I don't talk about fees, I don't want to talk about fees, please talk to my front desk..."). This is actually an ethical failure, and leaves Dr. Camp vulnerable to much risk. I presented just over a year ago while visiting the area with a common issue to the area: irritated, painful dry, red eyes. He diagnosed and recommended non-insurance reimbursed laser treatment, and I prepaid for treatment that did not impact my situation at all. He then suggested my problem is clogging of oil ducts, and he (as it so conveniently happened) he had a "specialized device" on order just for such treatment... for a substantial additional fee. This is where he refused to discuss fees, unlike our first interaction where he DID discuss fees. He actually said we discussed at our first meeting if the laser did not work, oil duct cleansing would be the next step; no such discussion ever occurred. These cash fees are very high, and no treatment received to date has impacted my symptoms at all. I have consulted other physicians during my care under Dr. Camp, and their assessment was not positive. I have requested calls from Dr. Camp for the past few weeks, sending photos of my continued eye and eyelid irritation (new since his treatments); no communication has been returned and my requests for continued care have been 100% ignored by Dr. Camp. As a clinician myself, Dr. Camp is not in this for the right reason. His intellect drives him to intend to help in huge ways, but most patients who come to see him just seek simple, day-to-day solutions, and he will not deliver because, in my experience and assessment (and this is my field of expertise), this mode is way below is intellect and way too boring for him as other reviews on this board describe using different words. The disgraceful ways his office manager interacted with me was despicable, though his main MA was always fantastic.
19 Dec 2023 Over a year after my original review, Jeffrey T. Camp, MD "replied", if you can even suggest it is a reply as it is completely without substance. Part of my update is I received a voicemail, despite a legal cease and desist order against Dr. Camp and his office, informing me that the lenses I had purchased "...were ready for me to pick up..." when I had inquired many times and even stopped by their office to pick up these lenses but was refused access. Again, beware of using the services of Dr. Camp because the ethics are so questionable and product fully paid for will not be released. These lenses were part of two sets of bifocal, custom sunglasses that cost close to $1,300. These monies were on top of the fully ineffective treatment monies I paid to Dr. Camp, 100% ineffective in-the-moment and to this day, and look at how Dr. Camp responded. And if your office staff does "... reach out to me...", Dr. Camp, it will be another legal violation of an fully enforceable cease and desist of all contact notice you and your office received from me.

Doctor came into room and never introduced himself or addressed me by name. He never acknowledged any information I offered during the exam, nor did he explain any part of the procedure or results.
At the end of the appointment the office withheld my prescription information while at the same time offering to buy glasses in-house that day. When I insisted I needed my prescription, the office staff argued, called me names and told me I was wrong for requesting my own patient information. No idea how this office can function in a small town. Do not go here.

Aside from seemingly discontented and not very personable interaction from this doctor, I also expressed that Ive have uncomfortably dry/irritated eyes for years and have been using artificial tears, which also do not seem to help. He took my $100 copay, and told me to get artificial tears. Thanks a lot! Biggest waste of time and money. I learned more about how to care for my eyes on youtube.com via eyelid massage, etc.
He also did a CO2 laser treatment on me years ago. It was horrifying with zero benefit; more so skin-damaging in the long term. I do not recommend.
The 1-star is for the very helpful and kind nurse that I saw prior to Dr. Camp.

Dr. Camp and staff are awesome! After my eye examination, Dr. Camp answered all of my questions and concerns regarding an eye procedure. He is a very experienced ophthalmologist and surgeon and I have the utmost confidence and faith in his abilities to successfully perform the eye procedure. Additionally, it helps to be prepared with questions prior to an office appointment with Dr. Camp to fully understand the scope and range of eye problem and issues and possible solutions Dr. Camp has to offer.

I had a great experience with Dr. Camp here in Truckee. I'm just up for a vacation but had a little concern about some eye irritation and his staff was amazing. They fit me into his schedule, and he was excellent.
Being from out of town I was a little concerned trying to find an ophthalmologist in Truckee that I did not know. As a surgeon myself I can be tough on all but the best doctors and I really felt he was very thorough, very knowledgable, and a pleasure to work with.

Of my handful of visits, the staff has been friendly and polite, however, there seems to be a major lack of organization going on here.
On my last visit to pay a bill and pick up contacts (I was called regarding them being there and it took a few weeks for me to make it in), I walked in the office to 3 people behind the desk who greeted me promptly, as they weren't helping any other patients. They seemed to be chatting about non-work related things, so when they told me I had to wait for someone on the glasses fitting side to be available (again, just to pull my order and swipe my card) I was a bit disappointed.
I waited for about 15 minutes while one of the staff was fitting a patient with frames, and 2 other staff members were shuffling through a rather unsightly stack of inventory? Honestly it was pretty unprofessional but I wrote it off and continued to wait.
Finally someone came to help me, only to say that they didn't have my contacts. I paid my bill and had to return to get the contacts later.
There's a lot of room for improvement at this office, but until then, I won't be back. With number of seemingly idle bodies and the very apparent disorganization I encountered, I've decided to find another optometrist.
