A Hidden Gem for Healthy Living
Have you ever visited Food for Thought? If you have, great! If not, let me tell you about this charming little grocery store in Sebring, Florida. Located right on the corner of US 27 and Flair Road, next to Five Guys, it’s Sebring’s answer to stores like Whole Foods or Sprouts, but with a local, down-to-earth vibe.

My weekend ritual usually involves flying my model airplane at Avon Park early in the morning. On my way home, I stop at El Zócalo in Avon Park for meat, then head south down US 27 to Food for Thought. It’s the perfect place to stock up on fresh, healthy items, and I always look forward to the visit.

When you walk in, you’ll find a cozy, well-organized store that offers a little bit of everything. They carry vitamins, supplements, and now even locally grown produce. Their dairy selection includes organic milk and raw milk, as well as organic and raw cheeses. If you’re into smoothies, you’re in luck—they have a smoothie bar in the back, near the chips and sodas.

Today, I treated myself to a smoothie called the Funky Monkey, which was absolutely delicious. My wife opted for the Tropical Mango Smoothie with a hint of spinach, and it was just as refreshing. Both came in 16-ounce servings—just the right size.

What I love most about Food for Thought is that it’s locally owned and operated. Supporting small, local businesses like this is important to me. Just like El Zócalo, Food for Thought isn’t part of a big chain. It’s rooted right here in Highlands County, and it feels good to support a store that gives back to its community.

The staff are another highlight. Everyone is warm, friendly, and eager to help. Whether you’re searching for a specific vitamin or need advice about a product, they’ll take the time to assist you.

Now, my only gripe is their closing time—usually around 5 or 6 PM. I sometimes finish work late and wish I could swing by for a quick stop, but they’re already closed. That said, when I do make it during their hours, I can find everything I need for the week without breaking the bank. They even offer sales on some items, which is a bonus if you’re on a budget but still want to eat healthily.

So, next time you’re driving down US 27 and craving a smoothie or need to pick up some healthy groceries, stop by Food for Thought. Trust me, once you visit, you’ll keep coming back for the great products, friendly service, and local charm.

From what I gathered from talking to the friendly and helpful staff, Food For Thought recently moved into a larger space. There's a large selection of vitamins and supplements as well as sections for food that would be harder to find in the Sebring area (vegan and/or gluten free snacks, bulk grains, nutritional yeast, etc). I really appreciate having a store like this locally!

Friendly and helpful staff. Always find my favorite gluten-free cassava pasta, raw goat cheese and muffins. Would appreciate if you’d carry blueberry ? muffins long with the carrot & raisin variety you already sell. Excellent variety available.

Customer service seems to be at an all time low but I would expect better hospitality from a health food store. I go to the health food store because I’m happy, I love life and care much about my health. This place always feels like a morgue. There is no joy or pleasure in the people running this establishment. All questions seem like a burden and I never see a smile or receive a greeting when I come in. With everything going online I would think small businesses would do their best to make their business a pleasurable experience.

Woah this place is overpriced. I’m new in town and ran out of my daily supplements and checked to see if I could get them locally but was shocked to see my supplements selling for more than twice the online price. They also don’t offer a satisfaction guarantee like online VitaCost or Amazon. Heck even Walmart offers 90 days on all their items. Thanks but no thanks, next time I’ll wait a few days to get them online.
