Cool national historic park. Can stamp your National parks passport book. Also free with America the beautiful pass. Good views of Chattanooga!

On our way down to Florida we stopped at Chikamagua battlefield and it was great, but we learned about lookout mountain and decided to do it on the way back up north. We went a good deal out of the way on our return trip to specifically do this park. Stayed the night in Chattanooga, had breakfast and headed up the mountain. The site said it was open at 8:30 am and we arrived around 9:30 am......and no one was there, the visitor center was closed and the gates to point park were closed and locked. We wasted hours of our return trip for nothing! We called the number on the battlefield map and couldn't get any answer as to why it wasn't open or if it would open (couldn't even talk to someone).

This was a Thursday, not a federal holiday so I still have no idea why this park wasn't open. I would have liked to have taken some photos from the "breathtaking views" (one of the main reasons I wanted to come) but no, the gate was locked and the only thing I could do was use my zoom to take a few pictures of the monument and some canons. Total fail guys thanks for the wasted trip.

Really cool area that’s like half neighborhood half tourist/historical area. There’s a nice exhibit in the visitor’s center and a couple other of shops. Many trailheads nearby but in order to go to them directly from here you have to go through Point Park which has a $10 entrance fee which seemed high. There’s also a lot of free parking.

They close at 5:38 on Sunday which was weird but we were able to use the restroom. It was clean
