A welcome addition to the desert. We loved REI when we lived in Los Angeles. It was always a great place for hiking and camping equipment. The Rancho Mirage location is no different. It is a very large store with loads of merchandise and wonderful staff. A special shout-out to the bike department and to Fern Hernandez and his team. They were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We had our bikes retrofitted with Tannus Tire Inserts (to guard against goat heads) and we got a great deal with our REI membership - a lot cheaper than we would have paid in Palm Springs. Cheers to their continued success.

Great staff! Great experience! Amazing inventory. We were invited to attend the Family & Friends Pre-Grand Opening event. I found a pair of REI shorts and they didn’t have my size(XL). REI has a great line of REI-branded apparel which is on par with Lulu and Patagonia. The staff found the shorts I wanted, in my size on the mannequin. The REI staff deconstructed the mannequin, removed the product I wanted, and rebuilt the mannequin. Now that’s Excellent Customer Service!!! We purchased three pairs of shoes and the Blue REI 5” inseam
running shorts.

I went in to cool down my toddler and see what gear I’d come back to buy for camping. The whole time I was in there my family and I were racially profiled and followed around the whole store by all the employees. The store was not even full so it was obvious we were being followed around. I will not come back due to that. What is so sad is that I was very excited when I saw the store was coming soon. But unfortunately with the experience I experienced I am very disappointed. Don’t racially profile just because we have dark skin. I hope this store really does something about their employees racially profiling given they just opened.

So happy there’s an REI in the valley!! I I work out here often and run the trails and climb Jacinto so having the supplies available is awesome!!
